Introduction

Sitefinity is an ASP.NET 2.0-based Content Management System (CMS) that enables the construction of dynamic, fully editable Web sites. Sitefinity provides the tools for quick and easy construction of a wide variety of attractive and functional Web sites. For the user, Sitefinity combines a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editing environment with an easily managed workflow process that tracks pages through the entire process from authoring, reviewing, and approving to publishing.

Modules in Sitefinity

For maximum flexibility and integration with Sitefinity, custom modules could be built to integrate with the Sitefinity administration user interface. There are two types of modules from sitefinity :

• Pluggable modules – compiled assemblies which can be deployed to multiple Sitefinity Projects.
• Intra-site modules - specific to the project they reside in. They cannot be shared between projects and are not compiled

With pluggable modules, the assembly is compiled so its usage is the same as that of the provided Sitefinity modules – there are no additional requirements. If user controls are preferred, an intra-site is the type of module to use. Look at the sample Jobs module coming with Sitefinity for details.

What is the New Sitefinity Version

There are some improvements functionality from old sitefinity version, such as :

• Content View Designer – it is used for the following public controls: BlogPosts, EventsView, NewsView
• Social Bookmarks – available for the Blogs module.
• Trackbacking and Pingbacking – ability to find out if and when a blog has been referenced by other Web sites
• Newsletter Public Controls – Subscription Form and Unsubscribe link
• New News Public Controls – News View and News Archive
• New Blogs Public Control – Calendar
• MetaBlog API – ability to write blog posts without the need of using Sitefinity Administration
